Birdeye Gravel is a gravel biking festival held every November in my hometown of Birdeye, Arkansas. A core value of this festival is to promote community connection and support the rural economy I grew up in. By connecting food vendors, musicians, artists, and other creators to this festival, all prosper. In order to combat the gentrification of many small towns that are becoming popular "off the beaten path" destinations, Birdeye Gravel commits its team to only utilizing infrastructure already in place. That is to say, only riding roads that have been paths since Buffalo roamed the state. Housing is often accessible by staying with local residents, in tents, or campers - offering a more unique eway to experience a rural community that does not want more unnecessary development nearby. As a local, I was happy to join StudioDRIFT in documenting and filming this event.
